I am a production engineer and a Volvo enthusiast. Here you will find a lot of Volvo DIY repair tutorials, CNC plasma cutter build project, CNC milling machine build project, Volvo 242 V8 build, and much more. I seem to have at least 5 things going at the same time so not everything gets done as planned...But I'll give my best and try to keep this channel interesting and helpful.
Volvo 740 Turbo failed head gasket - removing the cylinder head
My new project - 1989 740T with some engine problems. Removing the cylinder head in this one. New parts are on the way.

많은 도움이 되었습니다. 감사합니다.
very nice guide! I tried but failed nonetheless. I don't know how to tell a "nice and clean" solder from a bad one. So that might be the problem.
I did this repair last night and still had a dead dash, repeated today and spent a little more time being extra careful with the RA6 chip and now have a functioning dash again!!!! HUGE thanks to you, been chasing this problem for MONTHS. only issue is the fuel gauge is reading improperly now (not that big of a deal) but i was wondering if you had any ideas why the rest of my dash started working again and my gas gauge started acting funky?
Great work, my guess is that one of the connections you resoldered now has poor connection. It is tricky job and sometimes you have to go over it again
@@HeapsofProjects thanks a ton!! there is one leg out of the bottom 4 that looks a little rougher than the rest, i’ll go back over that next time i take it back out!
Love your channel.
What exactly did you do to the knob? It looked like you just re-touched solder points. did you replace the knob, or clean it out?
I think worst case is having the fan motor come on by itself with the key out/not running/locked. The battery doesn't like that.
I'm done solder under the knob button, but's the blower some time don't off after i off the engine, some time can't on the blower ... So curious 😢, please help
Hey man, it really works. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Czech Republic. Volvo v70 II 2005
I'd forgotten what handsome cars those were.
За 40 с лишним лет аккумулятор не разрядился и ключи нашлись
Of course I put charged battery on it, only had 60s for the video. I have not used this car for about 7 years.
Looks great! what size steel are you using?
Thanks for your video. I resoldered as shown in the vid. it worked right away but then seems like it has to warm up or something before it starts to function properly? I'm going to give another day or two before taking it out again...unless your familiar with my issue...Thanks.
mill some steel
That spotlight bracket is thicker than an engine mount.
Yeah, better safe than sorry
Many, many thanks for the advice, especially since it's hard to find replacement parts (in a distant country) for a 2005 car in 2024....
Excellent video and fix . Question on the temperature sensor as yours had bunch fluff etc. Could a gummed up sensor like that impact the air conditioner . Mine blow cold but not super cold . I may need a recharge of Freon but occurred to me when you mentioned temp sensor ? New subscriber and Tnx for video . 2009 XC90 V8
Thanks, it would only make it see the wrong temp in the cabin so if its not blowing not really cold it's more likely gas issue
What model soldering iron do you have? I had a job for 2 years assembling electrical components but never paid attention to the model of soldering iron I was using. I need to do this same repair and want to make sure I buy a decent soldering iron. Thanks!
It is not really that important. Find something with fine tip and adjustable temperature and you are good to go.
Nice work👏👏🙌
Between stuck bolts, stuck nuts and the belt being a pain to get back on. It was a successful change. It took a long time because the nut just would nut move. Required penetrating fluid in the end to lubricate it up. Appreciate the video, helped me a lot. Now I'd like some new finger tips after getting the belt back on.
Well done!
Sad music, it sucks.
Pero no pudiste desoldar el controlador...como q así lo armas le falta a tu video....
This video is great. It helped me 4 years ago repairing my SRS warning light error. Now the error is back and I'm going to redo the procedure. Not bad investing 30 minutes of my time every 4 years to save replacing the whole instrument cluster.
Thanks!
No locking of any shafts needed.?
If you don't remove cam pulley you don't need to lock anything but of course you can if you want
What about emi protection? ground drains?
The driver's seat on my 2007 Volvo s80 2.5T stopped operating electronically. How can I fix it?
great video. Helped me rebuild the rear diff on my 2011 S60. The main issue I had was getting the new races to seat without them getting jammed in the diff housing. Putting the race in the freezer and heating the diff housing helped to get the race seated squarely and not get cock-eyed in the housing.
Thats good idea, it was tricky to get them in there
Hi, thanks for thew video. Im not sure with how much oil should I fill in it. You have put 5.5L and it was too much? or is 5.5 liters ok?
It depends which version D5 you have. Between 5.5 and 6.5
@@HeapsofProjects I have D5244T4
How long does this take as a diyer? Im kinda fuming as mines jyst dropped, and would rather practice something like this over paying through the roof to have someone else do it
Doing it first time was good days project
@@HeapsofProjects thanks for letting me know buddy, I'll start popping stuff out before it gets here so it's ready to go
Any joy with the lift kit for xc90! The spring perch is such a restriction on these platforms!! 😢
Do you not lock cam or crank? Just leave it on the Marks?
If you don't remove the cam pulley you can just go off the marks.
What is DIM?
I used to have that
Very nice build. Im wondering if i can build a spindle plate so i can use a plasma cutter too. Hmmm. .. something to think about.
Ooof
Dude...
I know
Hello, I have a question if you are kind, I have a volvo xc 90 2.4 d awd 185 cv geartonic from 2007 and it has a problem with the bearings in the rear differential and I don't know where to find them and what reference they have, please advise how I can fix it and if you know what is needed and where to buy, thank you very much, I live in France
If you go to UK ebay and search "xc90 rear differential bearings" you will find a kit for about 200 pounds
Dam threading with an impact. You've got balls I'll give you that.
Works great!
And you like your volvos. You're like. Much more better version of me! Me 2.0
Very impressive. There's was me thinking I was top dog having cleaned my gutters out today.
Wow is this shop of yours just for your own enjoyment? Or do you do any business out of it?
This is not my personal workshop, just my workplace
Looks nice. Is your spindle wired up for 110 or 220?
Thanks, 220
Tänud!!
I’m surprised welding the frame rails didn’t warp it.
It's 100x50x3 and not any really long welds there.
Hi. Any idea why the centre console (arm rest) would need to be removed (slid backwards) for the cam belt change please? Thanks
No, never heard of that before
Thought so. Thank you
just recently started to hear the noise coming from cv joint (xc60 2015) when I start driving in the morning, so I would need to replace it, and since for volvo you need to replace whole driving shaft, could you tell me what part do I need to get to replace, just drive shaft or do I need to get additionally tripod hub, cv joint, bolts, boot, or does this all come with drive shaft when you get it?
If you are getting a full drive shaft then that will come as a whole unit and you only need to fit it. Nothing else needed. If you are getting just a CV then that comes with everything you need (boot, clamps, grease) but there is bit more work as you have to remove the old one and install the new one on the shaft. CV kit of ebay is about 110AUD
@@HeapsofProjects thanks, would you know are replacement parts any good or should I try to find used original? I contacted Volvo to get new original part and they gave me ridiculous price of 1200EURO per shaft.
@@fakinm replacement one is totally fine. If you are in europe there are plenty of options. I have used non oem ones for a long time and no problems really
Nice. What were the cutting parameters?
24k rpm, 0.8mm DOC, 1700mm/min. 4mm 1F upcut bit
@@HeapsofProjects Just curious. Thanks.
Would you share cutting speed and stepdown for the initial contouring?
So far I have had best results with: 4mm 1F upcut, 0.8mm DOC, 24k rpm, 1500mm/min. Lower DOC and higher feedrate seems to work better
@@HeapsofProjects Thanks!
No good for me. I miss the dismantling of the CV joint form the Axis. Most video's just show the fixing, not the "Take apart" part.
Did you mean to comment the CV axle video? What part of the process you would like to see?
@@HeapsofProjects Hey thanks for Reply. I do have A s60(2002) and I can't get the CV Joint from the Axle. I have to replace the CV Boot but I do not have The special Cone to drag it over the CV Joint
@@johnenrani okay it can be bit of a hassle sometimes when the groove or stopper itself has worn. I think the best way is to clean as much of the grease away from the CV as you can. Clamp the shaft in the vice about 100mm from the CV. Now you should be able to move the CV on the shaft little bit, maybe 1mm or less. You push it towards the vice as far as it goes, get a good punch with at least 12mm diameter or a 1/2in socket extension (not good for the extension tho). Now you put the punch againt the center of the cv so its touching the axle as well but wont actually move the cv away from its position. Now give it a good hit with decent hammer. If it didn't come off you push the cv towards the vice as far it goes and repeat.
Great video what are your feeds and speeds
This was one of my first things I did so not great finish. Now I have had good results with 4mm 1F upcut 1200mm/min 24k rpm and 0.1mm WOC for the final side finish. I have not done much surfacing so not too sure about that but will try soon and work something out
Thanks
But hey, at least it's fully functional!
